Foresight Technology, Inc. was founded by Rich Gay in 1988. The company focused exclusively on 4D consulting and custom development for the first few years. Steve Antonakes was the first employee to join Rich, and led the development of several 4D plugins (including DisplayList and AreaList, which would become the best selling developer tools for 4D. Several other talented developers and employees joined Foresight over the years, including jud spencer, Tom Trefny, Tim Freehill, Dennis Vogel, Carla Chandler, Betty Sauber, John Hattan, John Steele, and many others.

In 1998, Rich sold Foresight to Softec, who earlier in 1996 acquired the A4 Accounting Program from Softek Design. Softec changed their name to Foresight Solutions, and within a few years killed the plugin product line they had acquired from Foresight... much to Rich's disgust, and the horror of the 4D development community.
